I have been coaching cricket since September 1993 and every single day is different and one I look forward to.
Over 90% of the schools I currently coach in I’ve had since day one and loyalty is a trait I hold dear.
I am actively coaching in thirteen primary, secondary & special needs schools a week. In addition to this I coach Bath U11’s, Bristol U11’s and Bear Flat men’s cricket team. In total I coach over 500 children every week.
My father got me interested in cricket. I remember the ashes of 1981 and 1985 vividly but it was the ashes and one day success in Australia in 1986/87 that got me hooked!
I always wanted to be a professional cricketer but sadly did not impress enough at my trial. I knew that I wanted cricket to be my profession so I worked tirelessly to gain my coaching qualifications, culminating in passing the level 3 in 2000.
I have been a coach educator for nine years, tutoring both level 1 and 2 courses. I was also a Somerset age group coach from 1998-2008 a dozen cricketers have gone onto play first class cricket & two internationally who I have directly been involved in coaching.
After 20 years of coaching, I still get the same buzz seeing children taking their first step on the cricket ladder or progressing to club/district/county level as I did when I first started.
There is no other job that I would rather do and having last year reached 20 years coaching in schools, I am looking forward greatly to the next 20! I have been nominated for over 15 awards in the last 20 years but winning male coach of the year & sky sports coach of the year twice are the obvious highlights.
